White Noise

Third period. Five minutes and 13 seconds left of a tied game. Over time? Most likely.
Charlie knows his wife is there... he sees her in his periphery vision. She is speaking to him but he can't make out what she's saying. It's not registering. All he wants is that irritating, background drone to go away.
"Sure hon... after the game... I'll get to it." He doesn't know what he's going to 'get to' as long as it suppresses her chitchat, because while she's talking, he can't fully concentrate on the hockey game in front of him.

Like the hockey game... doesn't life get in the way of hearing God's voice? Knowing what He is trying to tell you to do? What your purpose is?

"God is working in you, to help you, want to do and be able to do what pleases him."
Philippians 2:13

So how do you know if it's God's voice or just white noise? Here's a few idea's I got off a Joyce Meyer podcasts:

1) Study God... the more you know about him the easier it becomes to hear from Him.

2)Don't rely on your feelings... feelings are fickle and can get you into trouble. Think things through before you act.

3)God stirs something in your soul... but be patient... wait for confirmation with 2 or 3 witnesses... whether those witnesses are books you read or a newspaper clipping that stands out or something someone says or does to confirm your stirring. Then step in the right direction. We always want Him to show us the right direction with a neon sign, but sometimes He wants us to have faith before He will show.

4) God speaks best when you are at peace. Don't force. When he speaks there is peace.

5)Seek to do good. Always.

6) If something stays with you, and stays with you, and stays with you... then do it, even if it doesn't make sense.

Ephesians 5:8-17:
8For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [lead the lives of those native-born to the Light].    9For the fruit (the effect, the product) of the Light or [a]the Spirit [consists] in every form of kindly goodness, uprightness of heart, and trueness of life.
10And try to learn [in your experience] what is pleasing to the Lord [let your lives be constant proofs of what is most acceptable to Him].
11Take no part in and have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds and enterprises of darkness, but instead [let your lives be so in contrast as to] [b]expose and reprove and convict them.
12For it is a shame even to speak of or mention the things that [such people] practice in secret.
13But when anything is exposed and reproved by the light, it is made visible and clear; and where everything is visible and clear there is light.
14Therefore He says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine (make day dawn) upon you and give you light.(A)
15Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),
16Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.
17Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.

Room to Think said...

So true! I get on with my day and let the little things distract me and take me away. And then another day goes by where I've shut God out and left Him sitting alone wanting all along to just spend time with me.

Thanks for stopping by my blog too.
